The classed are broken down into four basic elements. They may contain varing amounts of, but always some: 1) The Warm Up The warm up will begin every lesson and tends to last around 10-15 minutes. This part of the class is crucial as it gets the body warmed up, the blood pumping and ready to work. 2) Kihon (Basics) Basic technique training is the basis of all things in karate. The students will learn the techniques, movements, and stances that will become the foundation of everything that they do. hone their basics so as to improve their own techniques. 3) Kata (Forms) The Kata contain the essence of Karate, including most (if not all) of the techniques relevant to your level of progression in Karate. The Katas show the progression of the battle and application of the techniques you learn in order to win it. 4) Kumite (Sparring) Kumite, or sparring, is exactly as it sounds. The students learn to apply the techniques that they have learned against their fellow students. The beginning students will use a very structured and orchestrated form of kumite in which they know exactly what is coming, where, and when, in order to drill the actions and reflexes into their muscle memory.
