Yin Yoga emphasises the joints, bones and connective tissues over muscular strength and stretching: the long-held poses open up our joint systems, encourage collagen production and strengthen our tendons and ligaments. Target areas include the shoulders, spine, hips, knees and more, and the class incorporates deep breathing to calm the nervous system while in postures that challenge us.
Yin is useful for improving posture, joint mobility and elasticity, but perhaps most importantly, it creates a space to slow down our chattering minds.
