If you're looking for something fun and different in order to keep fit and active, try out the beautiful, cultural and fun art form of Capoeira! We offer kids classes at the Richard Taunton College (Hill Lane) on Thursdays.
Capoeira combines martial arts and dance into an art form that encompasses Afro-Brazilian culture, music, language, and movement. It was first created in Brazil by slaves brought from Africa some time after the 16th century, as a way for the slaves to fight back against their owners. Characterised by powerful kicks, sweeps and strikes, but accompanied with instruments and songs, it disguised a deadly fighting style as something that looked like a dance.
Today, Capoeira is fast becoming a popular way to keep fit, improve strength and co-ordination. By practising Capoeira, it can help you to develop a great sense of self-esteem, flexibility, balance, discipline and respect for yourself and others.
At this venue we have access to a big dance studio with wooden floor, with mirrors for a controlled execution of the exercises. We also routinely make use of kicking pads and crash mats to improve confidence during learning. Plenty of free parking for the users.
