Leroy Brown, better known as 'Sharky' to most people in the Boxing fraternity, has been involved in the Boxing Game for more than twenty years. As a youngster he became actively involved in boxing, growing up at a time when Muhammed Ali was at his peak and the sport of boxing was very prominent.
His interest became more serious after joining the Compton Arms Gym, then known as 'Rocky's'. He was invited by a friend to come and train with them and became addicted to the hard training regime which not only taught you to box, but also kept you fit and healthy. At that time top class local fighters were also training there, notably British & European Cruiser weight champion Tom Collins.
Following his committal to the sport in a training capacity, his enthusiasm soon became an obsession, and over the years he has been to many gyms in both a training capacity, and as a coach. This experience has stood him in very good stead today, associating with top fighters over the years, many of whom have had an affinity with what has been a very influential boxing gyms in Leeds, 'St. Patrick's Boxing Gym'.
Although that gym is no longer around today, it has seen many fighters who have gone on to achieve success. This gym was run by the world respected Terry O'Neil. Sharky has learned his trade as a boxing coach whilst observing some of the best coaches this country has produced.
