Although many of us feel that we should be “taking it easy” as we grow older, that is actually what we shouldn’t do. Extended periods of sitting can lead to all sorts of physical problems which are not, as we might think, an inevitable fact of ageing. Many of our age-related symptoms can actually be caused simply by inactivity! It doesn’t have to be that way. With simple and safe movement we can help to keep our bodies fit and healthy, no matter what our age or ability.
Research shows that many of the physical health concerns linked to ageing, such as reduced strength and balance, back problems, anxiety or depression, or breathing difficulties can all be helped by regular exercise, particularly by a yoga practice. The practise of yoga is adapted to suit all abilities so even if you don't think it will be 'for you' why not give it a go? It certainly won't hurt, you may even have fun!
