Yin Yoga is a meditative, slow paced practice which aims to target the connective tissues of the body, such as the bones, ligaments, tendons and fascia surrounding the muscles. These areas are not normally emphasised in more ‘yang’ or dynamic styles of asana, which focuses more on muscular strength and flexibility. Gentle stimulation of the connective tissues through the use of long-held, supported postures helps to create space in the joints, reverse habitual movement patterns and improve flexibility and mobility overall.
Suitable for beginners and experienced practitioners alike, Yin Yoga lends itself to cultivating a profound awareness of the breath, body and mind.
