In this class we explore simple seated or lying exercises that shine the flashlight of attention on the breath. This is all conscious breathing really is, just paying attention to the breath and freeing yourself from any restriction in the belly and chest.
In doing so we bypass the logical thinking mind that’s related to planning and doing, and tap down into the body, into being with what is. Not only does this have profound effects on centring the mind in preparation for meditation, but by consciously breathing deeply into the lungs and abdomen; we improve circulation, relax the nervous system, and can reduce the effects of long term stress. The rhythm of the breath brings traction to the spine allowing for an internal massage keeping the back healthy and strong.
The first part of the class will be centred around this breath awareness, we’ll then transition into our meditation practice once the mind is a little more still and our bodies grounded.
The meditation will be tailored to the class and could include body scans, visualisations, contemplation, and even movement.
You don’t need to have an existing meditation or breath work practice to join the class. Everyone welcome!
