Chair Pilates is a gentle form of Pilates designed to be performed while seated or using a chair for support. It is suitable for older adults who may find traditional Mat Pilates difficult where it might be challenging to get on and off the floor. This class is open to all levels of ability. No prior experience is necessary.
These sessions aim to improve your strength, mobility, posture, balance, coordination and flexibility through low impact slow movements. The class includes the use of props such as resistance bands and pilates balls. Chair Pilates can help you to become more confident in everyday movement and provides a safe and comfortable way to stay active.
Anyone who would like to practice Pilates but is unable to get on and off the floor. Please seek advice from a medical practitioner before attending the class to check that you are safe to exercise, particularly if you have had any recent surgery or a recent fall, severe dizziness, unexplained loss of balance, and any significant pain made worse by movement. If you have been told that you have a medical condition that is not safe to exercise with or is not well controlled, and if you cannot safely sit on a chair to exercise due to severe mobility or other medical issues then this class is not suitable for you. If you are unsure if this class is safe for you to attend then please seek advice from a medical professional. If you do suffer with musculoskeletal pain then this class is still well suited to you and can help to improve your mobility and strength which can help to reduce pain.
