Reiki is thought to have originated thousands of years ago in Japan. for all that time, it was kept hidden from the world as a secret healing art. Then it dissapeared and was thought to be lost. This natural healing art was re-discovered in 1914 by a Japanese man called Mikao Usui and he began to teach others so that the art and and it’s benefits could be known and experienced outside of Japan. It is now practised globally.
The meaning of the word “Reiki” is universal life energy (Rei is Universal and Ki is Life Energy). Life energy is described as the vital force that flows through all matter. Reiki energy, as life energy, can be activated and channelled as a form of spiritual and emotional healing. It can also be a powerful tool for personal transformation and growth.
Reiki is received fully clothed. During a treatment, I will use a series of hand positions on, or just off the receiver’s body. Reiki energy flows into and through me, as the practitioner and out of my hands into the receiver’s body; a high frequency of energy is transmitted to the receiver. As the practitioner, I am simply a channel and I am ”attuned“ to the Reiki energy. I do not personally direct the Reiki. A Reiki practitioner’s energies are never depleted because the healing is channelled; as a channel, I am also receiving great benefit from the Reiki as It pours through me into the receiver.
Patients say they feel the Reiki energy flow into them, either as a heat or coldness, often in places distant from the place where the practitioner hands are placed. Often they say they see colours such as turquoise or purple, whilst receiving Reiki. It is said that Reiki “knows” where it is needed, flowing to the place where it can do most good and so supporting the bodies’ ability for self-healing.
For a healthy person, Reiki can be a pleasant way to relax and de-stress. There may be releases from emotional blockages. Emotional release is welcome in my sessions and I will do my utmost to be present an dhold you if you pass through those spaces inside your self.
Reiki is not a faith system. All that you need is the willingness to heal and be healed.
Reiki can be received by animals, plants, objects and places. It can also be given without direct bodily contact, over long distances or even in another country.
