Ayur Yogic massage is the combination of Ayurveda (a Hindu traditional system of medicine native to India and an alternative form of medicine) and Yoga. This method was originally developed by Master Kusum Modak, in Pune, India. I completed my training at Seed Ayurvedic Massage Centre, Goa, India.

It is a strong and deep massage that includes yoga stretches to help lengthen and unwind the body. I give the massage with my hands and feet. Deep massage techniques warm the body, releasing tension and waking up the blood and lymph circulation. As the body warms up, the yoga stretches mobilise and open the joints, releasing tension held in the muscles. The stretches are chosen to support the condition and needs of the receiver. This treatment is very good for tired or tight muscles.

Ayur Yogic massage is given on a futon, on the floor. I use warm sesame oil and calamus bark powder (botanical name Acoris Calamus, Araceae). The sesame oil is nourishing and detoxifying for the skin. The calamus powder is a powerful cleansing herb; it is also antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and exfoliating. Massaging with the oil and powder together creates a scrub, which is stimulating and good for blood circulation.
