Pregnancy is a precious time, a time when women often feel the need to turn in and be quiet. Massage can support women to take a little time to do so, helping them to process the mental, emotional and physical changes that they are going through during pregnancy. For me, pregnancy massage is an act of devotion, honoring and blessing. In this way it can bring a sense of re-connection, calm and confidence, helping pregnant women to trust deeper their beautiful, creative bodies.
Every pregnancy is different and every woman is different. This means each pregnancy massage will also be different and tailored to suit your needs and wishes. During a massage session I will offer any and all of the following: nurturing touch, breathing, visualisations, Shiatsu, Reiki, awareness and exercises that support posture. Massage can be of great benefit to women during pregnancy, birth and postnatal period giving welcome relief, relaxation & reassurance. Through it they can prepare themselves in the best possible way for labor and birth.
Before we start to the massage, we often take time to explore postural awareness and see how it may be affecting your body – comfort or discomfort. Then we will play with a few exercises to strengthen the body or release tightness. These stretches and movements practices are fun and can also be very useful in daily life to help prepare your body during pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period. By understanding how to adapt to your changing body you can help ease symptoms such as backache, sciatic pain, head ache, shoulder tension, calf cramps, swollen and Oedema in hands, ankles and feet.
