Kundalini Yoga is called the Yoga of Awareness. It is a technology, a dynamic, powerful tool that is designed to give you an experience of your soul, of your highest consciousness. All exercises, meditations, kriyas are helping you to get into this awareness state of mind.
We practise kriya-s that are specific set of movements that combines breath, mudra, eye-focus, mantra, body locks, and postures to balance the glandular system, strengthen the nervous system, expand lung capacity, and purify the blood. In the Eastern tradition, kriya-s are used to help bring the body, mind and emotions into balance to enable healing. Each kriya and meditation has its own individual effect. Kriya means complete action. And actions as we know bring us result! Meditation can also be part of the kriya, or done separately.
Each Kundalini Yoga class begins with a short chant to tune in to our higher self and inner teacher, and to connect with the golden chain, all the spiritual masters, gurus who perfected this sacred science. By establishing a link with the teachings and our own higher consciousness, we are protected, as well as guided in our practice. After we tune in we start with a warm-up to stretch the spine and improve flexibility. We then start with what is called a kriya (above), a prescribed sequence of poses and pranayama, breathing exercises that focus on a specific area of the body. Meditation is either part of the kriya or done separately after/before the final relaxation. We end with a closing song and mantra. All levels of experience and abilities very welcome.
