Yin offers a beautiful contrast to the faster-paced Vinyasa/Yang styles of yoga. Classes are slow and relaxing, giving you an opportunity to calm your mind and de-stress your body.
Poses are held for longer periods (typically 3-5 minutes), allowing for slow, deep muscle release. Postures are passive floor poses that mainly work on the lower parts of the body - hips, pelvis, inner thighs and lower spine - as these areas are rich in connective tissue. The main aim of Yin is to stretch and target both the deep connective tissues between the muscles, and the fascia throughout the body.
Yin helps to increase circulation in the joints and improve flexibility. It also helps us to regulate the body's flow of energy.
