What is floatation?
Floatation (or flotation if you are old skool) is an incredible experience in which you shut down all outside noises and stimulation. Just you, floating in a pool of warm water and Epsom salts, naked as you came into this world... you will have the choice of having gentle light and/or soothing music, but we recommend to eventually opt for silence and darkness.
Cool story, but what are the benefits of floating?
Floating has many benefits: it relieves stress, nervousness, anxiety, jet-lag, insomnia and muscular aches and pains. It improves your concentration and memory. It gives you extra energy and makes you feel dynamic. Many people use floatation to stimulate creative thinking and to solve problems, or for mental preparation for work, academic or sporting challenges. It has also been reported to reduce feelings of anger and agitation. There are many medical conditions which have been shown to benefit from floatation therapy, such as arthritis, back pain, pre-menstrual tension, post natal depression, asthma, migraine headaches, multiple sclerosis, cardiovascular conditions, osteoporosis and synovitis, to name a few. You will feel the benefits for a few days after your float session....and then you'll be keen for more!
Wait, is this the same as Sensory Deprivation Tanks?
Bingo! Yes it is, there are some very cool things happening to your brain when you take the noise away, within 40 min your brain waves changes from Alpha to Beta or even Theta waves. You like Theta waves, these are the waves that happens in your brain just before you fall asleep and again before you wake up.
Floatation therapy in BrightonWon't I get bored?
Do get bored! What a wonderful and important thing to do! In fact, being bored out of your mind makes you more creative. In our modern life we spend so much time in-front of screens, checking calls, emails, texts, Facebook, Tinder, Youtube and watching sausage dog puppies, that we have forgotten the power of boredom. So much so, that it has become a bad word. Let's change that! Floating by yourself in a warm pool allows your body to totally relax, and where the body goes, the mind follows. As every muscle in your body is 100% relieved from all tension, you can quickly go into a state of deep relaxation. Give yourself permission to do nothing. How glorious!
Do I just lie there?
Well yes, the water and Epsom salts support your body weight and there is no need to move. Some people like to use a little head pillow, that's fine, whatever you need to make you totally relaxed.
