Vinyasa (vin.YA.sa) means "breath-synchronized movement," and Vinyasa yoga is a series of poses that will move you through the power of inhaling and exhaling. Vinyasa movements are smoothly flowing and almost dance-like, which explains why it is sometimes referred to as Vinyasa Flow or just Flow.
Physically, sweat expels toxins and re-energizes your body. Mentally, the synchronized breathing relaxes your mind and helps to release any blockage of energy flow throughout your body.
Ashtanga, the most athletic and physically demanding form of yoga. The foundation of this ancient system, discovered by the late Sri T. Krishnamacharya and his disciple Pattabhi Jois in the 1930's, involves a series of set postures practised in sequence (vinyasa). There are 6 sequences in all, the first is known as the Primary Series. A certain level of fitness is required to start Ashtanga.
